One activity that my kids love to do is playdough. I, too, remember being at preschool as a young child and one of my favorite things was making and playing with peanut butter playdough. You get to make it, play with it, then eat it! What’s not to love?!
Playdough is a great learning tool. Kids can practice shapes, use their imagination, and work on their manual dexterity. My twins love to make bird nests then roll up little balls of playdough and say they are bird eggs. They also love making snakes by rolling the playdough out or making all sorts of shapes by using cookie cutters.
Here are two of my favorite playdough recipes. Enjoy them with your children!
Playdough (non-edible)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
2 tsp oil
1 cup cold water
Mix all ingredients, except flour, together in a saucepan on stove. Heat until warm. Remove from heat and mix in flour. Knead until smooth. Have fun!
For storage: store in tupperware or in ziploc freezer bag. This playdough will last for about 6 months.
Peanut Butter Playdough (EDIBLE!!)
2 1/4 cups peanut butter
6 Tbs honey
1 1/2 cups powdered milk
Mix peanut butter and honey together. Add in powdered milk a little at a time until the playdough is workable with your hands.
Play! When done, eat!
***Please make sure that the child you are making this with has no nut allergies and is over 1 year old (due to the use of honey)!***
So fun. I’m going to try both of these recipes!
