It’s the most wonderful time of the year to listen to your wonderful holiday playlist! Not just so that you are part of the holiday cheer, but because listening to music is good for you! Yes, you read that right! Studies show that listening to music has various positive and lasting effects on your body and mind. Your favorite holiday music can actually be beneficial during what is often a busy and stressful season!

Did you know holiday music can also improve your mood? There’s nothing like hearing a favorite holiday song to brighten your holiday spirits and change your mood. Music can magically shift your mood and mental health. The nostalgia that you experience while you are listening to your favorite holiday song has this amazing neurological effect. While listening to music, one’s brain’s pleasure circuit is stimulated and releases dopamine and serotonin (they are behind all the happy feelings and thoughts). Need I say more?

If you are stressed during the holidays, listen to more music! Holiday music can decrease stress levels! According to Scripps Affiliated Medical groups, “Those classic holiday tunes you love are good for your heart. (Even for a Grinch with a heart two sizes too small.) Your blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels can all be decreased—thus reducing stress—when you settle back and enjoy your favorite music.”

So break out the seasonal playlist, sit back, and enjoy the music!
