How to Save Your Sanity : 5 Simple Tips

Grocery shopping, laundry, squeeze that workout in, start dinner, rerun the laundry because you forgot it was sitting in the washer… does this sound familiar? I swear that this is me daily! And then of course the kids are there and they always come first which means all of that other stuff that I need to do either doesn’t get done or I’m rushing around trying to finish even half of it before the day is completely over.

There are so many tasks that need to be done to keep everything running smoothly as a mom, wife, and friend that it seems completely overwhelming sometimes. Recognizing that you’re overwhelmed IS NOT a bad thing. In fact, I think it’s a great thing because then you can prioritize what is most important to you and what things you can delegate to make your life, and your family’s lives, just a little bit easier.

So since this seems like something that most of my mama friends and I continually go through I decided to compile a list of things/services that I believe help keep a mama’s sanity in tact. Some are super simple and some a little more work, so take a peak and see if any of these would work for you.

Easy Tasks

  • Set up your bills to auto-pay. I won’t even lie, I’m notorious for forgetting that things are due unless I have a monthly reminder set up on my phone or the auto-pay function is setup. Auto-pay is so much easier and cheaper than late fees so I always make sure that this is the way we pay our bills.
  • Prep the night before. Seriously you guys, this one is so easy and takes way less time than if you did it while your kiddos are are awake! After they hit the sack, I lay out my outfit for the next morning. If we’re running out the door I’ll make sure we have an easy breakfast made. I know when my oldest starts school that I’m 100% packing lunches the night before. And I always pick up the house at night, so that when we wake up the house starts out clean for the day and I’m not spending all morning cleaning and starting off my day in a funk over the dirty dishes.

Medium Tasks

  • Meal planning and prepping. Blah… you guys this one kind of sucks. I don’t enjoy it but meal planning seriously SAVES us during the week! We’ll shop the whole week’s worth of groceries which saves me time during the week not having to shop daily. We prep food on Sundays and bake breakfast eggs in muffin tins, make bags of smoothie mixes, and if we need to do any pre-made snacks we get them ready. I love drinking tea, so we brew a huge pitcher at home and drink it all week long. All of this saves time and money too, win win!
  • Grocery delivery services. There are so many delivery services out there now that this is a pretty accessible option. Shipt is great. Amazon Prime is the bomb. And apparently there is an Amazon Fresh which does food. What more is there to say? There are also great food/meal services available like Sun Basket, Blue Apron and more. This is also a perfect option for those of you with new babies who have a hard time making it into a store without crying involved (you or the baby haha). There are also store pickup options where they will have your order bagged and ready to go for you. Saves you so much time!
  • Hire a house cleaning service. I realize that this is a luxury and not a necessity so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth it for you or not. For my husband and I, it is. Our thing that we nitpick each other the most on is the level of “clean” in our home and I just don’t have enough time or energy to do it all. I can’t afford someone every month but we can do a few deep cleans throughout the year and that helps so much. I will definitely sacrifice in other areas of my life to not have to stress over a clean house.

Honestly, some of these things are no brainers but sometimes you don’t even realize that there are so many options out there. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask for help or hire it, for the sake of your sanity! Sometimes it’s as easy as saying something to a friend or your spouse and them realizing that yes, you can’t do it all and you need to help. I’d love to hear if you have any more suggestions to simplifying your life. Leave a comment if you do.

  1. Tip four is saving the sanity in our house! We subscribe to Amazon Prime, Google Express, and utilize Frys Clicklist services and it makes such a huge difference.

I ran out of garbage bags this past week, instead of trying to remember the next time I’m at costco I just hoped on Google Express and ordered them, two days later they were at my door. So helpful!
