Earth Day

  1. Go Paperless

How many bills or publications do you get in the mail currently? Do you file them away or do they end up in the recycle.?Or even worse, do they end up in the trash? Going paperless is a great alternative to getting actual documents in the mail. Not only does it de-clutter your home, but also in many instances it could save you money. Many companies have become privy to the digital age and now offer discounts for paperless billing. Consult with your service providers to see if this is a possibility!

  1. Carpool

Who doesn’t like the idea of saving gas? Carpooling is one of the easiest ways to go about saving money and our environment. Many employers have carpooling forums to help employees connect with others in the area. Also, websites like Zimride greatly help in finding others who want to carpool as well. A large part of the emitting of air pollution is due to automobile use. This is causing global warming which will have long-term negative effects on our environment. Help to change this by hopping in the car with someone else next time you need to go somewhere!

  1. Ban The Bottle

Consuming bottled water may seem like a convenient way to stay hydrated, but it is actually harmful to our environment. Many of these bottles end up in landfills or the ocean. These same bottles can take over 1,000 years to biodegrade. Companies such as S’well and Soma create reusable water bottles that are both practical and fashionable! Just keep refilling the same bottle and you will soon notice that you are saving both money and our environment!

  1. Create Your Cleaning Supplies

Not only would making your own cleaning supplies help to save our Earth, but it would also save you money! Manufactured household cleaners often times contain toxins that can be harmful to your health and the environment. It is very simple to create products that are just as effective while eliminating those harsh elements. The items you would need to make these cleaners can be found right in your kitchen. The right combinations of baking soda, vinegar, lemon and/or soap will have your home squeaky clean and smelling amazing.

  1. Consider Your Carbon Footprint

If you are anything like me you probably do not know what a carbon footprint is. A carbon footprint is the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere as a result of the consumption of fossil fuels. Every individual person, household and organization has their very own carbon footprint. The goal is to keep this number low. By doing so you are helping the environment and preserving energy resources. Take a second to check out this carbon footprint calculator. If your number is on the high side consider what you can do to lower it. It is our responsibility to do all that we can to take care of our Earth.

As you can see, taking care of our Earth is not a difficult feat. Making a few simple changes will help in preserving the life of our wonderful planet. Earth Day is April 22nd, but doing what we can to preserve our planet should be done everyday! What else can we do to help save Planet Earth? Leave a comment below!
