Let’s face it. When it comes to keeping young kids occupied, we moms have to get creative sometimes. But a project doesn’t have to be super complicated for kids to enjoy it. I try to do things with my children that I, myself, enjoyed as a youngster. When I was young, I remember that I loved to do leaf rubbings…and if an activity incorporates bringing the outdoors inside, I’m all in! I had the kids collect leaves on a walk home from the park one day. If your kids are like mine, they surely enjoy this art activity. Mine even said “Mom, this was a GREAT idea!” as they worked away on their rubbings!
What you need:
- Leaves (recommend flatter leaves for better tracing)
- Paper
- Crayons/Pencils
Lay a leaf on a flat surface. Place a piece of paper on top of the leaf. Lightly rub the side of a crayon or colored pencil on the paper above the area the leaf is laying under. Start with a light pressure to pick up some of the details then press a little harder for a bolder print. And that’s it! I hope you enjoy this simple but fun activity that brings nature indoors.
