I was so excited when I got the email from Stacey and Kate (our fearless leaders here at North Phoenix Moms Blog) that I was picked to review the Piggyback Rider. I think the fact that my youngest is the perfect size for it helped, but I’m hoping my amazing writing skills were part of the consideration…!

The Piggyback Rider was invented by two brothers who were trying to find an easier way to transport their kids. They came up with a product that is less bulky than a traditional hiking backpack and is more comfortable too! It’s simple, easy to use, and is tons of fun for kids.

We took the Piggyback Rider Explorer Toddler Carrier on our annual trip to Montana. My son, Auggie, is getting better at hiking longer distances, but his legs can’t always keep up with the group. At three years old and nearly 40 pounds, he outgrew our hiking backpack.  However, we still try to squish him into it. This seemed like the perfect idea for a transition out of the backpack.

My first thought when I pulled the Piggyback Rider out of the box was that it was super light – no extra weight of a traditional backpack. It was also really simple to set up. I did look at the directions, but only to confirm that it really was as easy as it looked.

I clipped myself in and then my son in under 30 seconds.

Piggyback Rider | North Phoenix Moms Blog IMG_4828I guided him through stepping up onto the bar and he hopped up easily, giggling like, well, a three year old. He loved the handles on the shoulders and thought the standing bar was fun.

Piggyback Rider | North Phoenix Moms Blog IMG_4834With some quick adjustments to the straps, he was happily settled and could easily see over my head. I was happy with how comfortable it was – it would be an easy addition to not only our hiking gear, but for any event or location – zoo, carnival, field trip – where little legs would be begging for a ride. My husband Peter was skeptical but couldn’t resist the little face begging him to try it out. When he gave in, he was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was.

Piggyback Rider | North Phoenix Moms Blog IMG_4844I think my favorite part was how the shoulder straps are maximized to be backpacks with water packs and pockets. Auggie LOVES that he has his own pack and water – it’s a great bonus that he actually wants to get on and go for a ride!

Piggyback Rider | North Phoenix Moms Blog IMG_4847After some careful consideration on what my rating system should be, I decided that the one thing a mom really loves is a sleeping child. And many sleeping children? Well that’s just a little slice of heaven. So my rating system is a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best – and the Piggyback Rider is the best – our family gives it 5 out of 5 sleeping kids!

Lucky for you – we are GIVING AWAY one of these AMAZING PIGGYBACK RIDER TODDLER EXPLORER CARRIERS (valued at $199)!
