Here are some frequently asked questions about orthodontic treatment and what to expect when you visit the offices at Dunn Orthodontics:

Why choose an orthodontist?

Orthodontists are dental specialists who diagnose, prevent, and treat dental and facial irregularities. They receive an additional two to three years of specialized education beyond dental school to learn the proper way to align and straighten teeth. Only those with this formal education may call themselves orthodontists.

What age is appropriate for my child’s first Orthodontic visit?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic screening at age seven. By this age, most children have several permanent teeth that have erupted, letting us evaluate their orthodontic needs and spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present.

What can you expect at your first to Dunn Orthodontics?

Your first visit is free and will be as comfortable and informative as possible. We encourage you to ask questions as we want you to leave understanding your treatment options and confident in the doctors and staff. During the first appointment we will:

  • Welcome you to the office
  • Review your health history
  • Do a complete orthodontic exam
  • Summarize your specific orthodontic problems
  • Explain your treatment options
  • Identify the best time to begin treatment

How long does treatment take and how much does it cost?

Patients who need orthodontic treatment generally have one to three years of active treatment. However, treatment length will be determined at the initial visit. The cost of orthodontic treatment depends on many factors, including the severity of the problem, how complex the problem is, and how long treatment lasts. We work with insurance companies and offer payment plans & financing options that meet your family’s budget.

Why is orthodontic treatment important?

Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. A bad bite can also cause abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, difficulty in chewing and/or speaking, and excess stress on supporting bone and gum tissue. Without treatment, many problems become worse and can require additional dental care later in life.
