Snow Week at the AZ Science Center: The Arizona Science Center has once again crafted a magical experience for visitors! They created a space for wonderment and imagination and found a way to bring the cold and snow to downtown Phoenix. Dressed in beanies and snow gloves, sweatshirts, and jeans, my kiddos and I headed out for a day of play with another Phoenix Moms Collective Writer, Tassia, and her three kiddos. We were greeted by a hill of powdery white snow right outside the Science Center doors. Children of all ages, laughing and building snow forts and snow angels. Some were wearing shorts, t-shirts, and Crocs. Others were even brave enough to dive in with their bare hands for a friendly snowball fight!
Once inside, “snow” magically fell from above onto patrons’ heads, allowing the fun to continue. We explored hands-on exhibits like building our own snow people and trying out snow bowling. We also got to grab some grub at one of their snack shops and enjoy watching an incredible film, “Dinosaurs of Antarctica,” in the Irene P. Flinn Theater.
In the Daniel Cracchiolo Theater, there are demonstrations on “The Science of Cold” —learning how to create snow, learning about snowflakes (“Did you know that a million billion snowflakes are falling around the world at any given time?”), and a friendly “Fire N’ Ice Snowdown” between Mr. Snow and Lady Flame. They showed off cool tricks with cold, fire in the palm, and sibling banter filled with icy comebacks.
We wrapped up the day with “Clouds of Fun” —watching hot water mix with liquid nitrogen to create a spectacular cloud over Snow Hill! It was the perfect way to end such a great day!
There’s so much to do at the Arizona Science Center, and new exhibits are coming in 2025. Please visit azscience.org to discover future fun.
