Pinterest: Hit or Miss? Orange Julius Protein Smoothie

Introducing a new regular column on the West Valley Moms Blog! Each month we will take an idea from Pinterest, try it out and let you know if it is worth your time.. or not. Some of the projects will be big, some small. Many of us have plenty of Pinterest boards and pins, it’s time to start doing some of these projects. Don’t just pin, do! About a month ago, my husband randomly had a craving for Orange Julius. I can not tell you the last time I had one of those! Off to the mall we went in search of one. And oh, was it good! Maybe it was the Arizona heat, but it sure was refreshing. Definitely a “sometimes” treat though. So I decided to search Pinterest for a healthier alternative. I was also in search of a new protein smoothie to try for breakfast. And I found one!

It’s very easy to make. I cut the recipe in half to make one smoothie. The  ingredients (for one smoothie) are: 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup water, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, about 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and about 2 tablespoonsful frozen orange juice concentrate (I eyeballed the measurements).

Throw  it all in your blender and give it a whirl!

Insert straw (taking care not to use/waste one of my daughter’s coveted pink straws)..

..and enjoy!

Verdict: Hit! This was  delicious, healthy,  and a great way to start the day.

How do you start your day? Do you ever enjoy a smoothie? Any must try recipes? Let us know in the comments!

  1. I am actually a fan of Jamba Juice and found the frozen packets they sell at the grocery store. Just add apple juice to it and blend – instant yummy smoothie – great mid day treat
