The phrase “New Year, New You” has always been a popular saying when the calendar rolls around to January. It’s a time where people choose to create goals for themselves and take control of their future. Many of us try to come up with resolutions including lose weight, stick to a budget, or not eat out. Whatever the “resolution” it usually revolves around a “new you” and that just isn’t realistic.
Here are 3 reasons we need to ditch the phrase “New Year, New You.”
1. Love yourself
I know the saying doesn’t totally mean you should change yourself, but why do we need to say “new you?” I’m a firm believer that you will love others harder, the more you love yourself. If we want to focus on being better people, we need to focus on changing parts of ourselves. Not changing who we are completely.
2. Acceptance
Accepting others can be easy. As women, accepting ourselves can be hard. If we think about how we would talk to others, with kindness and encouragement, it may help us talk to ourselves with a bit more respect and forgiveness. We want to improve, not change completely!
3. Make it happen NOW.
If you want something to change, why would you wait for the new year to do it? If you want to see a difference in something, take those steps necessary to change and do it NOW. You don’t have to wait until the new year to become a better version of yourself.
“New year, new you” has always been something that people look forward to. A new year is a great time to make change happen and reflect on the previous year. It’s a time when we tend to set goals for ourselves, but not a time where we need to become completely new people. What are your resolutions this year? Are you creating a goal that will change you or improve you?
