Making Memories, one second at a time

5

I am always looking for ways to capture the small moments in our life. My main way to do this is through photography. A few years ago I did a 365 photo project with a friend. If you have never done this, I really recommend it! It is not only a great way to document your life but it also helps you to improve your photography (if you are into that sort of thing). If you have a friend to do it with, all the better. My friend and I had a private flickr group where we shared our photos and commented on each other’s photos each day. It was really fun.

Then about a month ago, my husband and I watched a TED talk about taking a one second video of your life every day. The idea being that if you record that one moment, and watch it again later, you will recall the other moments surrounding that one moment which will easily bring back memories of that particular day. The idea intrigued me but I wasn’t sure how practical it would be to do.

Turns out there’s an app for that.

I decided to try it. Here is 31 seconds of our October.

I don’t know if I will continue to document my life this way; like any new idea it takes time to make it a habit. Photography tends to be my preferred medium anyway and I do still take photos most days. But this is kind of a fun thing to try and it does look cool all mashed together!

How about you? What is your favorite way to document your seconds, minutes, hours, moments? Let us know in the comments.
