Desert Botanical Garden Butterfly Pavilion
Visitors to the Marshall Butterfly Pavilion can expect to see hundreds of butterflies housed in a spacious 36-by-80-foot flight enclosed garden that recreates a habitat that is most appealing to butterflies. 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily.

MudPie Studios Art Club
Every Tuesday & Wednesday, MudPie Studios offers an art club where students will learn to draw, canvas paintings, environmental art, clay sculpting and more. 6 week sessions are $120 or $25 a class. All ages are welcome. 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Bring your own sketch pad.

The Homeschool Art Program offers a six week curriculum with small class sizes. Students will learn to draw, canvas painting, environmental art, clay sculpting, and more.


Wizard of Oz
Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) announces performances for their upcoming musical production Wizard of Oz. Follow the yellow brick road with the cast of 6-13 year olds as they present the show April 30 – May 17 in Anthem. The show is double-cast, with each cast of 50 performing eight shows. Performances take place Thursdays–Sundays, April 30–May 17. Times vary, see website for details. Adult tickets are $19 and students, seniors and children 12 and under are $16.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Premiere
Join Live 1015 and the Phoenix Comicon Street Team for the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron at Harkins Norterra. Be sure to dress up as your favorite Marvel character and get your photo taken in the photo booth. *No costume weapons or face masks allowed inside the theater. 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Mom EXPO 2015
For families of all ages and stages, the Mom EXPO will have exhibitors, samples, demonstrations, lectures, entertainment for the kids, and much more. Friday, May 1 10:00 a.m.-3:00 pm. And Saturday, May 2 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Mesa Convention Center.

MudPie Studios Cocktails N Canvas
Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, MudPie Studios offers a great time sipping spirits while painting a canvas art piece with an art instructor. They supply a 16 x 20 canvas, paints and brushes. Thursdays 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturdays 7:00 p.m.-9:00 pm. Group of 4 or more $26.25 each or $35 per person.

Music in May
Kids dance, neighbors visit, and the park rocks during Music in May in Anthem. Held every Friday night from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in the ACC Community Park Amphitheater, this family-friendly event invites the community to grab a blanket, bring a picnic dinner, and enjoy the diverse sounds of local Arizona bands underneath the Anthem sky. Food trucks will be on site the first week; the ice cream truck will be on site the weeks following. Open to the public. Admission and parking are free.

Desert Ridge Marketplace Concerts
Free musical performances every weekend starting at 7:00 p.m., suitable for all ages, featuring local bands and musicians. There is seating, but you may bring your own chairs.


Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market
The Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market, taking place at WestWorld of Scottsdale, will feature over 180 hand-picked local Arizona and California artists and vendors that feature all things chippy, rusty, vintage and handmade. With a focus on creating beautiful interior environments through unique, distinctive pieces, this market will provide shoppers with an outlet to find special items for any interior design. The market will also feature fabulous live music, great food, and plenty of inspiration. Saturday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; Sunday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Early entry admission is $10; general admission $5; and children under 12 free.


Walk 4 Water
The 2nd Annual Walk 4 Water Norterra brings together the opportunity to raise money and help bring clean, fresh drinking water to the people of Namuntenga, Uganda. Sign-up or sponsor a walker at Check-in is at Elevate Coffee at 7:30 a.m. with the walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. at The Shops at Norterra.


Spring Clean & Be “Green”
Unload your old electronics at the recycling station just south of Albertsons near Wolfley’s Neighborhood Grill at the Desert Ridge Marketplace between 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Uptown Farmers Market
Weekly Saturday morning market on the southeast corner of Central Avenue and Bethany Home Road on the grounds of the North Phoenix Baptist Church. Vendors vary by week but may include Hayden Flour Mills, Jan’s Baked Goods, McClendon’s Select and more. 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.


North Valley Symphony Orchestra’s Final Season Concert
The orchestra, led by Maestro Kevin Kozacek, will perform “Scenes of America” – a tribute to the land that we love. The concert will feature pieces by two of America’s popular composers, Aaron Copland and Mark O’Connor, as well as the revered Antonin Dvořák. Additionally, the winner of the annual Summerford Violin Competition will perform the audition piece, Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in a minor Op. 3 No. 6. Concert takes place at North Canyon High School’s Center of Performing Arts, 1700 E. Union Hills Drive beginning at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $5.


Stargazing for Everyone!
Enjoy a night under the stars or a special tour in the giant indoor planetarium. Learn star names, see the constellations, and listen to stories of the night sky. View the moon, planets, star clusters, nebula, galaxies and more through telescopes. We encourage you to bring your digital camera and binoculars to enjoy the views from these great locations. 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. $6 per vehicle park entry fee.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park Free Concerts
Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy a variety of music from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Train and carousel rides are available during all concerts for a small charge. Children under three ride free with a paying adult. Food will also be available for purchase.


Kids Play at Outlets at Anthem
Bring your little ones for a free Interactive Kid’s Program each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Outlets at Anthem, Suite 420. Activities are geared for younger aged children and require parental participation. Kids enjoy singing, dancing and a special snack.


Norterra’s Car Show
The Shops at Norterra will feature classic and modern cars from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. They will also have live music from Notes of Neptune, Kool FM and midday host Charlie Huero will be onsite, and much more!


Pie a la Mom
Moms and their kids (no age limit!) are invited to the first “Pie a la Mom” at the Anthem Civic Building from noon-2:00 p.m. 76th Street will offer a special live music set, pie and ice cream will be served, special Mother’s Day crafts will be available and a photographer will be on-hand to capture a special moment to keep. Admission is $5/person. Register in advance by noon, May 8.


Arizona Derby Dames
Teams of roller skaters skate around a banked track vying for position and points. The Arizona Derby Dames league is one of just seven all-girl banked track roller derby leagues in the world. Game takes place at 6:00 p.m. at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix .General admission is $15 per person, $7 for children 12 and under.


Free Seminar for Parents
Dr. Lisa Strohman, a clinical psychologist and founder of the Technology Wellness Center, will host a free seminar for parents to raise awareness on internet predators and pornography. The event is open to parents, educators and adults working with children. Registration is required, as there will be limited seating available. 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at LifeScape Medical Associates, 8757 E. Bell Road in Scottsdale.


Annual Bridal Expo
Treat your mom and/or loved ones to a day out this Mother’s Day where you can shop, taste and experience culture. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., DB Bridal will be hosting the 6th Annual Bridal Expo at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale. This event will feature vendors that will showcase wedding and event services with a multi-cultural flare. The day will include designer Fashion Shows, world music, free Henna (Mehndi) applications, and thousands of dollars in giveaways.Admission is $5. Attendees receive free admission if they register in advance.


Hike by the Light of a Full Moon
Experience the Sonoran Desert by the light of the Full Moon. Everything looks different in the dark. Meet at the Nature Center at 6:00 p.m. for this Ranger led adventure. $6 per vehicle park entry fee.


Parents Night Out
Kids will play games, make crafts, climb the Rock Wall (8 yrs.+) and eat pizza at the ACC Community Center in Anthem from 6:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Kids should bring a bottle of water and sack dinner (if pizza is not preferred). Staff is CPR/First Aid Certified. A minimum of 12 participants must be registered by the deadline for the program to run. $15 first child; Multi-child discount available ($10 second child, $5 third child).


Shred-A-Thon & Prescription Drug Take Back
Shred up to 5 boxes and 13-gallon trash bags per vehicle for FREE! Will accept unused prescription and over-the-counter medication. No sharps or inhalers! Drop-off location is near Wolfley’s Neighborhood Grill at the Desert Ridge Marketplace between 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (or until trucks are at capacity).


Babies Bonanza Showcase & Expo
The largest baby expo in the valley will provide information and products useful to new parents. Taking place at the SanTan Village from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., the Babies Bonanza Showcase & Expo provides a day where parents can prepare from prenatal to preschool. Expo highlights include: more than 100 exhibitors showcasing their products and services, product demonstrations, health and fitness education, parenting tips, free samples, live entertainment, baby shower with gifts, and lots of great giveaways.

Les Miserables
Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) presents Les Miserables, the epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. The award-winning cast of teens and adults brings Les Misérables to the stage in Anthem. Performances take place May 21 and 22 at 7:00 p.m., May 23 at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m., and May 24 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online: adult tickets are $19 and students, seniors and children 12 and under are $16.

Donate & Skate
Roller skate at Desert Ridge Marketplace for a donation of just $2. Free gift for donations of $5. Portion of the proceeds will support local military support organizations including the Wounded Warrior Project of AZ. Open to ages 6 and up. Skates and equipment provided.


Cave Creek Balloon Festival
The sixth Annual Cave Creek Balloon Festival at Rancho Mañana Golf Couse is from 5:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Enjoy live music by local bands, as well as food, beverages, cocktails and wine. Locally brewed Four Peaks beer will be available for purchase. Kids will enjoy the larger-than-ever kids’ zone and great activities.
