Wow, this summer has certainly flown by! Before we know it–maybe even this week–the kids will be going back to school. Eep!
We wanted to do a few things to get ourselves in the back-to-school mindset. Pinterest, of course, has a ton of ideas. Here are some activities we will be doing to start easing back into the school routine.
Back To School Shopping: In addition to making sure school clothes and uniforms fit, we will be buying school supplies just as soon as we get the list from the new teacher. I will look online for a price comparison chart so we can find the best deals! Most stores also have a school supply list for schools in need, and we will donate some supplies to that as well. In addition, I try to get at least one item off the teacher’s “wish list.” It’s also a good idea to make sure last year’s back pack and lunch box will still work; if not, then it’s time to replace those too. Don’t forget new school shoes!
Do A Craft Or Two: Crafting together is a fun way to countdown to holidays or other events. There are PLENTY of ideas for Back to School crafts on Pinterest. My daughter and I made a bookworm. His name is Ben 🙂
Set Up A Homework Station: I like the idea of kids having a dedicated place to do their homework with all the supplies they need close at hand and free from distractions. We don’t have a desk yet for my daughter so that place for us happens to be the kitchen island. In a drawer in the island, I keep pencils, erasers, scissors, crayons, glue and other school supplies she may need. Another idea is to keep all of these items in a tray or box that can be moved to where it’s needed. We tend to do our homework soon after we get home so it’s done and she can relax for the rest of the evening.
Back to School Reading: There are plenty of options for picture books and easy readers for back to school. This year, I picked up The Night Before First Grade at Target and we’ll be reading that one because my baby is starting first grade! I will also check with the library and see if they have any other good book ideas.
Get Back Into A Routine: We will really focus on getting back into a routine, especially with bed time. In the summer, we are a little looser with bedtimes but once school is back in session, we have to stick to a schedule. About a week before school, we will start implementing the school year bath and bed routine.
Sign Up For After School Activities: If you know what your kids want to do with their after school time, now is the time to check out dance studios, sports teams, etc and get signed up!
I wish you all the best for a great school year and I hope your kids are excited to go back!
