I will be the first to admit that I am the absolute worst at sending out cards and family photos to my family. That’s what Facebook is for, right?!?! I’m sure my grandparents would disagree.
As Christmas approaches, I always feel the pressure to send something out. Call it my gift to my extended family! Unfortunately we didn’t have time to get Christmas photos done this year with our beloved Stacey with Dream Photography Studio so we had to improvise!
Without further ado, here are 3 tips for DIY Christmas Cards:
1) Do a DIY photo shoot! This year I did that and to my surprise it turned out wonderful! I went to Michael’s, picked up wrapping paper, Santa hats and a wreath (all for about $10). We used a small bench that I already had that my children could sit on for their pictures. I covered the back of my outside wall with the paper and that was it! Easy peasy.
They’re not professional by any means, but I gotta say they’re pretty darn cute & festive!
2. Get the kids involved! What family member doesn’t LOVE getting a piece of “art” from one of their little loves?! This year we did just that. Items we used were: kraft cards, glue, felt, and sequins! We spent a good portion of an evening making our Chrismas trees and Rudolphs. And of course, I had my little artists sign their names so our relatives knew who made their special card! It was a blast and it beats uploading pictures to Costco and ordering a collage- I’m not getting down on that AT ALL because those are super cute too, but we did make memories that we wouldn’t have otherwise ๐
3. Send a “Highlight Reel”. Some of my absolute favorite Christmas cards are the ones where my family or friends have sort of “captioned” their year. You get to hear bits and pieces about each member of the family and what they are up to! It makes me feel much more connected and “in the know”! The pressure to write a full on Christmas letter is way too much for me to take on, so a highlight reel fits in to our busy life! Here is a good example of my sweet Ellie to go off of- simple but does the job!
